Collaboration with The Gothic Shop

Hi guys, if you follow me on my social networks (Facebook and Instagram mainly - I have a Twitter account but I don't use it so often) my modelling career hit a new reward: some weeks ago I could announce to the world I was going to collaborate with the famous The Gothic Shop from England!

I have been a huge fan of their shop for ages, they are a great resource for every gothic girl/model who wants to improve her closet. I grew up admiring the photos of Lady Amaranth (in my opinion THE authentic gothic model) and so...you can imagine how I felt when Lele Photography told me they were interested in collaborating with us. We have been the first alternative italian artists to get promotional stuff from them - so yeah, I'm kinda proud.

We got a huge parcel containing a cloak, two dresses and a jacket. Some of the stuff are by Sinister, one the most famous gothic brands on the market. The quality of their products is high with a great care to details so give them a visit on their Facebook page or website.
The second dress is the famous "Immortal" dress by Jawbreaker from London, a beautiful black stretch velvet with red lining in satin; it gives a very elegant look and shapes the figure very well, even in case of wide hips like mine (a suggestion: don't purchase this dress if you don't have a generous bust: the neckline has a opening in the middle to show your décolleté and since I'm not a busty lady I had to place a brooch to keep it closed).

Now it's time to show you the photos we took with these products, we will take some outdoor shots in the next days so stay tuned for new images!

Intervista per "Talento nella Storia"

Buongiorno a tutti! Settembre si è concluso con un mare di novità e moltissimi impegni, che mi porteranno via anche gran parte di Ottobre. Spero che l'Autunno (uno dei periodi dell'anno che preferisco) abbia portato anche a voi giorni sereni e fruttuosi!

Veniamo a noi. Il mese scorso è stato davvero impegnato dal punto di vista storico, artistico e sartoriale: sono uscita su una rivista (di cui parlerò in un post dedicato), ho partecipato ad un evento in stile civil war (attendete il post in merito), sto lavorando su nuove commissioni (vi terrò aggiornati, con questi ultimi lavori mi trasporterò nel magico mondo de "Le mille e una notte!") e ho sostenuto una bella intervista per un portale di Storia e cultura. Avrei dovuto partecipare alla quarta edizione del Raduno Multiepocale dei Gruppi Storici in Alessandria, sempre con i miei amici della Nona Regio, ma ahimè, il meteo è stato tiranno e mi ha obbligato a dare forfait (e dire che avevo un nuovo costume da sfoggiare!). 

Andando a ritroso, torniamo all'intervista. Ho avuto il piacere di scambiare quattro chiacchiere con il portale "Talento nella Storia", discutendo soprattutto del mio lavoro come modella e creatrice di costumi storici. Il tutto è avvenuto nel più cordiale dei modi, ennesimo esempio di come i social network possano rivelarsi fruttuosi se usati con criterio da entrambe le parti. Non mi dilungo altrettanto e vi lascio all'intervista, non senza aver ringraziato ancora una volta lo staff di "Talento nella Storia" per l'interesse e lo spazio concessomi.

Shooting: Stupinigi

Finalmente ho del tempo libero per dedicarmi a questo post! L'ultimo mese è stato a dir poco impegnativo e stressante, con ben sei commissioni e un costume per me, ma di quest'ultima creazione parlerò più avanti. Oggi vorrei proporvi degli scatti realizzati verso metà marzo nella bellissima location della palazzina di caccia di Stupinigi (TO). Poso da quasi un decennio e in tutto questo tempo non ero ancora riuscita ad organizzare qualcosa che avesse come sfondo quel piccolo gioiello dell'architettura italiana; opera di Filippo Juvarra, la sua costruzione fu decisa nel 1729 per ospitare il re e la sua corte durante le battute di caccia.
Approfittando del mio costume rococò (molto basic, lo so, ma punto ad arricchirlo prossimamente) e di uno shooting imminente con il mio amico Francesco Gerace, abbiamo organizzato questa uscita fotografica in quel di Stupinigi. La giornata era davvero molto calda e la stoffa del mio abito (taffettà più fodera, con paniers in lino e sottogonna) non ha certo aiutato a superare la calura, in più l'effetto del pannello riflettente era a dir poco accecante...ma chi bello vuole apparire, un po' deve soffrire, no? 

L'acconciatura non è quella che realizzo di solito, molto più accurata, ma il tempo era poco e mi sono dovuta accontentare di un piccolo chignon. 

L'abito è stato realizzato lo scorso anno in circa due settimane, non è accurato al 100% ma era il primo tentativo con un costume che richiamasse il XVIII secolo. Nella fase succesiva, ci siamo spostati nel bel parco attinente alla palazzina, dove ci siamo calati in atmosfere più medieval-gothic. Anche per questa occasione avevo un abito nuovo, realizzato con delle stoffe che avevo per casa e che, per mia fortuna, erano della stessa tonalità seppure di materiali differenti.

Hello there! As I told you some days ago, I had a nice time in Rome. I took some amazing photographs with Arianna Ceccarelli Photography in the Aqueducts Park, surrounded by 2.000 years old roman ruins. 

The location was simply suggestive: the park is located on the old Appia road archaeological area, a site every lover of ancient History (and not) should visit. The main structure is the "Aqua Claudia" aqueduct, started by emperor Caligola and completed by his uncle and successor Claudio around 52 a.D., which was the main source of water of imperial Rome. Aqua Claudia was known for its pure water, second to Aqua Marcia only. 

You can imagine how happy I was to be there: I was in Rome, in a Roman archaeological park, dressed like a matron. But it's not the only outfit I brought that day. We took some gothic shots as well, using the sunset fading light.

A medieval dress: Butterick 4571 review

Hello!

Some weeks ago I got in my inbox a sweet gift the amazing model and costumer Jeanette Cederström Karlsson from Sweden. She sent me some beautiful jewels to modelling with and I immediately thought they would have been great with a costume I was planning to sew. I saw this pattern by Butterick several months ago on Ebay but I wasn't interested in it since I wasn't planning to craft a medieval/fantasy dress with a fitted bodice and sleeves: 

Then I thought I had to try something different from my normal kind of dresses, and so I bought it. The line of the dress is really nice, with a huge square neckline and double sleeves. I felt in love with the white design on the right but since I don't love how pure white looks on me, I bought a sand crushed velvet. I find Butterick patterns richer in illustrations than Simplicity ones, but the instructions are very poor. This dress looks good on tall girls with a nice breast, and I'm not tall or prosperous neither lol! I used a size 10 but the dress fits quite large. I avoided the laced closure on the back but I had to tighten the bodice a lot; on the other hand, the skirt was perfect. The construction of the gown has been quite simple except for the wrong size and the kind of fabric which isn't hard enough to stay fitted around the bust. I had to add a strip of white lace on to hide the generous neckline. Hiding the seam of the waist line has been hard as well: the fabric I used was too soft and continued to fall down so I had to hide it with a belt instead of the wide trim which appears on the pattern cover. 

The skirt is really wide and with a beautiful train. At last, I decorated the neckline and upper arms with a beautiful gold trim.

The dress is wonderful and really rich but...okay...I don't like how it fits me. I have to keep a rigid posture during the whole shooting to avoid wrinkles on the bodice. So bad. 

The belt I'm wearing in these shots is by Armstreet but then I sewn one by my own in white satin. 

I didn't take many photos during the work in progress but I've to admit it looks really good in professional shootings.

Some updates at September-October 2015:

I completely re-sewn the dress. Every part has been unstitched and sewn again. After a whole year of work my skills improved quite a lot and yeah, my creations cannot be compared to the previous ones thanks to my serger. So I serged this costume and I did few alterations for a new fitting since I decided to sell it. This is not my kind of style, my hips are too large to suit this design and so alas, it will be listed on my Etsy shop in a while. 

The bodice has been resized to a bust of 85 cm and I added metal eyelets replacing the old lace lacing. The trim has been stitched again, all by hand, for a perfect finish. The neckline has been raised up so I could avoid the lace strip (I don't have a generous bust so I hate when clothes fall off) and has been trimmed with cotton bias tape.

The trim has been applied to the pointy sleeves - so medieval! 

I love, love, love how it turned out! I recently sewn a similar dress in white for a customer but I'll talk about it in another post ;)

Meeting a photographer again after three years? Yeah, it happens. I met Alex Golisano last month for a new shooting, after three years from our last set together.

It has been sooo funny seeing him again and discover nothing changed! We took some medieval and fantasy shots as usual and I tried to do a different hairstyle playing with my braids. The result has been a sort of bavarian/princess Leila hairstyle which didn't want to stay attached to my head. I put several bobby pins to keep them in place but they lasted for some minutes only :( Anyway, people loved it a lot on my Facebook fanpage so it's ok :P

Girls do it better. This one has been my first shooting with a girl after such a long time, and I'm really satisfied of these photos! I meet the young Valeria in Turin, to take some gothic, medieval and fantasy shots. Nothing new, you could say, but this was her first medieval shooting and I tried to do all my best to make both of us satisfied.

I'd like to thank the medieval reenactment group Arduino for the medieval blue dress in velvet. The renaissance inspired dress has been sewed by my own and needs some decorations still ;)

Hello folks! Today it's a snowy day in Italy! It's the first snow of 2013 and I hope it will be the last ;) I never liked snow, if you live in a big town it means more traffic, more problems to get out and so on, but if you can admire this natural show at home, sitting at your window with a cup of tea... oh well, that's nice then ;)

Anyway, I'd like to show you some pics taken last month in Turin, at the Valentino park. I met for the first time the emergent photographer Silvano Cph to take some gothic and medieval pics, and our meeting has been great!
